History of St. Paul Jaycees Foundation
For almost a century, the St. Paul Jaycees provided members with various opportunities to serve their community, cultivate lifelong friendships and establish contact with other professionals. Membership in the organization leads to relationships, professional and personal, that are meaningful and successful. Members of the Saint Paul Jaycees were able to raise significant funds over the years and decided to establish the Saint Paul Jaycees Charitable Foundation.
Saint Paul Jaycees Story
The St. Paul Junior Chamber formed on September 11, 1929. Our first chapter president, Leslie Farrington also served as Jaycee National President in 1933.
Leadership roles in the St. Paul Jaycees have been instrumental in the creation of a number of popular St. Paul traditions. Among these are the annual School Patrol Parade and Picnic and the St. Paul Winter Carnival. The members have always helped deliver aid where it was needed, such as the polio vaccine drive in the 1950s. They also help brighten the holidays of families by connecting them to resources with the Children’s Holiday Shopping Event.
The St. Paul Chapter was recognized for its innovative community-events and human initiatives, but it distinguished itself in 1984. It was during this year that the battle with the U. S. Supreme court to grant women full membership rights and privilege made a lasting impact that changed the landscape for fraternal organizations across the country.
The men and women of the St. Paul Jaycees Foundation continue to use a portion their spare time to help others and their community while at the same time enriching their own life experience. Serving others is a calling that these young adults answer by providing leadership and assistance in various ways helping children, young people and the elderly.
As the needs of the St. Paul community continue to surface, the challenges will continue to be met with those individuals committed to the mission and values of the St. Paul Jaycees Foundation.
