On Saturday, September 29, the Saint Paul Jaycees will be volunteering at The Family Place, a day and night center for families living without a permanent home located in St. Paul. We will be assisting with one of their basic needs programs by preparing and serving lunch and then socializing with the families following the meal.
With nearly 10,000 people in Minnesota experiencing homelessness each night, The Family Place’s mission is to “assist families in shelter to gain more confidence in building future goals that will lead to success of the entire family.” Beyond simply providing housing or meals, they aim to invest in the complete family to reduce repeated bouts of homelessness and prevent generational homelessness. They do this through basic needs programs (providing meals, laundry services, and phone/internet), children and youth services (early education and leadership training), and housing programs (evaluating the issues that contributed to their state of homelessness). They also have a 16-person night shelter on the west side of St. Paul, where families develop homemaking skills and good nighttime routines and habits that ultimately contribute to families’ success in realizing permanent stability.
We hope you will join us in supporting this fantastic organization and serving members of our community.
