Heart of Dance is a Minnesota non-profit which brings the physical, emotional, and social benefits of ballroom dance to populations who may never otherwise know them. Specifically, with their Dancing Classrooms program, students receive two dance lessons each week during a 10-week program. The program coordinates dances instruction with the classes’ other subjects, creating a holistic and dynamic learning experience heavily focused on social and emotional learning.

At the end of each semester, schools can send teams of 10 students to compete in the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match. This optional extension of the Dancing Classrooms program gives participating students an opportunity to interact with dancers from other schools and collaborate to create a new “safe space” together as a diverse community with a shared interest. The team matches reinforce the core values that students learned during their Dancing Classrooms sessions: mutual respect, tolerance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and elegance.

JCI St. Paul is pleased to be a part of a program having such a strong impact on the students and future leaders of our community. Through the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match, students build self-esteem, confidence, and discipline, while increasing gender respect and awareness, improving conflict resolution skills, and demonstrating a practical application of social etiquette standards.

Join us for the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at the Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul!
