JCI St. Paul is sponsoring the 4th Annual Northeast Food [...]
We are excited for our newest JCI St. Paul event, Heart of Dance Colors of the Rainbow Tournament. And we are proud to help sponsor the spring competition for youth in the St. Paul and surrounding communities, which is the grand finale of many weeks of practice!
March is International Women’s Month. It was created to celebrate and honor the people who have helped advance the rights of women around the world. One of the first high-profile Supreme Court decisions with a profound impact on women’s rights in the US is Roberts v. United States JCs. This decision came in 1984 and has been a well-referenced decision for many subsequent gender-based court cases.
It’s the beginning of the year, which means we are starting to look forward to the Les Farrington Best 100 Juried Art Show, one of our favorite annual events! Since 1957, JCI St. Paul has invited high school students from the area (grades 9-12) to submit original artwork for the show. It is one of the only non-school sponsored art events, allowing students to compete against their peers and gain exposure and recognition in the community. Last year, over 850 original art pieces were submitted for consideration. We expect even more will be entered in this year’s competition!
Named after the 1929 St. Paul Junior Chamber first chapter president, Les Farrington, the annual JCI St. Paul Farrington Dinner is a time to reflect upon the past year of community service and events.
JCI Saint Paul’s roots go back to 1929. We first formed as the Saint Paul Junior Chamber and quickly established a reputation as leaders in the community. We’ve proudly played a major role in Saint Paul traditions, including the annual School Patrol Parade and Picnic and the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.
On Saturday, September 29, the Saint Paul Jaycees will be volunteering at The Family Place, a day and night center for families living without a permanent home located in St. Paul. We will be assisting with one of their basic needs programs by preparing and serving lunch and then socializing with the families following the meal.
Do you remember what it felt like to go school supply shopping? The way it felt to fill your backpack with fresh folders and notebooks and - if you were really lucky - colored gel pens? It was so exciting! There was so much promise and potential for the new year. For so many children and families in the Twin Cities, back-to-school shopping doesn’t happen. As a matter of fact, in Ramsey County, 57% of students are eligible for free or reduced price lunches. With families struggling just to feed their children and school supply lists getting longer and longer, many kids don’t get to experience the thrill of back-to-school shopping.
JCI St. Paul is proud to announce our sponsorship of this year’s Meals on Heels event. We are excited to support this evening of great food, beverages, and entertainment to ensure that 100% of event proceeds can directly benefit Metro Meals on Wheels. In addition to our monetary support, the Jaycees will be providing volunteer support. If you are looking for a fun way to serve the Twin Cities community, this is a great opportunity! We need 10-12 volunteers the evening of Thursday, August 16, to run Fling the Ring, the photobooth, and registration, as well as to provide restaurant support.
